Tokyo, Japan.- The organizing committee of the Tokyo-2020 Olympic Games announced on Wednesday the flame lighting for March 12, 2020.

The date will coincide with the ninth anniversary of the earthquake and tsunami that hit northern Japan in 2011.

The president of the International Olympic Committee, Tomas Bach, assured that after the ignition in the Temple of Hera the flame will remain in Greece until March 19, when there will be a ceremony in Athens.

A day later will arrive in Japan through the town of Matsushima, in Miyagi prefecture one of the most affected by natural phenomena.

Other destinations will be Iwate on March 22 and 23 and then it will arrive in Fukushima, where it will be on March 24 and 25.

The tour will cover the 47 prefectures of the country and will be carried out for 121 days before the lighting of the cauldron in the Japanese capital.
