Rome, Italy.- The Italian government has cancelled today the joint bid of Milan, Turin and Cortina for the 2026 Winter Games.

According to statements by Giancarlo Giorgetti, the undersecretary of the Italian government’s presidency for sports, there is not the necessary will among the three cities to undertake the proposal.

With only one day left before the closing date for the presentation of candidacies, Giorgetti gave the news in a speech in the Transalpine Senate.

The leader described the candidacy as ‘dead’ in the absence of support to carry it out and said that in such circumstances it is better not to present it.

The Winter Olympics is a multi-sport event held every four years under the supervision and administration of the International Olympic Committee and includes both ice and snow sports.
