Havana, Cuba.- The draft of the new Constitution of Cuba has 760 changes in total, after the analysis and debate that took place in the town of the Caribbean island, informed the secretary of the Council of State, Homero Acosta.

As guided the direction of the commission all opinions were accepted to strengthen the spirit of the document, Acosta stressed to intervene in the plenary prior to the Ordinary Session of the IX Legislature of the National Assembly of People’s Power in the Palace of Conventions.

Everything that was possible had to be incorporated and we did so, and generally retains the 11 titles, 24 chapters, there were 18 sessions, now there are two more, and the text has 229 articles, five more than in the consulted project, said Acosta.

There was an opinion in almost every paragraph of the text, of the 224 articles of the original project 134 were modified, and three were totally eliminated, he explained.

Only 87 articles remain without any type of change, said Acosta.

The majority, he said, agreed with the role of the Communist Party of Cuba, and only 262 said the opposite, while it was asked to remain a secular country.

He observed that the beaches are public domain and will not be privatized, as well as important infrastructures and those of a strategic nature.

Most of the proposals aimed at making the work compulsory, but there is no legal obligation for this case, so it will not proceed, if it incorporates a statement that says working is a social duty, he said.

The role of the socialist state as a market regulator and as a planner of the economy is recognized, and private property will not be eliminated, he said.

On Friday, the second ordinary session of the IX Legislature of the National Assembly of the People’s Power will be installed and in it the parliamentarians will have to pronounce themselves on the new project, which if approved by the State Council, will call a constitutional referendum.
