Havana, Cuba.- The head of the General Customs Office of the Republic of Cuba, Nelson Cordoves, said here on Thursday that the institution is ready to guarantee facilities to doctors who return home after participating in the More Doctors Program in Brazil.

We have all conditions created to receive the collaborators and their cargo, he said in statements to journalists.

According to the official, Cuban doctors can be certain that their belongings will reach their destination by sea, air and post, as far as the General Customs Office is concerned.

We activated a work team with the mission of assisting in this process, said Cordoves, who recalled that the professionals who started to return home at dawn on Friday were exempted from paying duties and services.

On November 14, the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba announced the withdrawl of Cuban physicians from the More Doctors Program, due to conditions and threats from Brazilian President-elect Jair Bolsonaro, whose statements were described here as disrespectful and unacceptable

Flights with collaborators from Brazil are expected to arrive at Havana’s Jose Marti International Airport in the next five days.
