Havana, Cuba.- Local media reported that Cuban authorities” interests and strategies are aimed at develcarrying out to develop e-commerce in the country as a fundamental element for the immediate future.

Cubadebate is one of the website that reflects such a decision and its potentialities, especially in the face of new economic methods in Cuba.

The website even mentioned an application for cell phones named Transfermovil, which has been widely accepted among Cubans.

Authorities expressed that the e-government and e-commerce are the fundamental catalysts of the computerization of Cuban society, an issue that President Miguel Diaz-Canel has even addressed.

E-commerce is understood as the commercial activity developed by using information and communication technologies, they said.

Cuban Deputy Communications Minister Ernesto Rodriguez spoke on Cuban television recently about the issue, and stated that the first stage of the implementation of e-government was completed.

About the development of e-commerce in Cuba, Rodriguez pointed out that it is going according to the country’s economic possibilities.

He referred to a new website for Correos de Cuba to facilitate electronic payments, and appropriate links to the country’s banking system.
