Havana, Cuba.- After a smashing victory at the United Nations, Cuba awakened today again focused on resisting the blockade imposed by the United States, standing despite a massive rejection in the top international organization.
The evwe, the resolution project titled ‘Need to put an end to the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba, obtained the support of 189 members of the United Nations.
Only the United States and Israel voted against, while Moldova and Ukraine were absent from the hall.
From Russia, where president Miguel Diaz-Canel is on an official visit, he celebrated the victory and the support, practically unanimous, of the international community in the cause against the siege.
Not only was Cuba victorious, but the United States was defeated 10 times, the head of State said referring to the rejection of the top international organization to the amendment projects proposed by the U.S. to the Cuban initiative against the blockade.
The texts proposed by the U.S. delegation, were rejected by ample majority, as some 115 nations opposed each one of the eight U.S. amendments.
Many at the Assembly considered the amendments as a futile attempt to mine the support given for the last 26 years to the claim of putting an end to U.S. blockade. Those documents referred to the issues of human rights and the objectives of the UN agenda for 2030, not related to the main object of the resolution project.
At the General Assembly, the European Union considered any amendment to the resolution demanding the end of the blockade should be left out and lamented the strengthening of Washington sanctions against Cuba.
A while before, Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez, denounced U.S. attempts to politicize the issue of human rights and put an obstacle to UN vote.
The U.S. ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, appealed to the human rights and a supposed solidarity with the Cuban people to justify a policy universally condemned.
According to the report of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, damages caused by the blockade in almost 60 years, reach 933 billion 678 million dollars, taking into account the depreciation of the dollar facing the value of gold in the international market.
Only in the last year, losses rose by four billion 321 million 200 thousand US dollars.
