HAVANA, Cuba. – Last August 1st the extraordinary edition of the Official Gazette published a resolution by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, MTSS, aimed at the improvement of self-employment in Cuba.

Twenty seven of the 201 activities approved for self-employment are limited temporarily and five are eliminated definitively.

According to assistant Director of Employment of the Labor Ministry, Idalmis Alvarez, those regulations constitute a measure of continuity making part of a systemic process and includes the revision and modification of the activities to improve their functioning.

In the process of improvement similar activities were grouped; for example, beauty service or repairer of appliances will need a single license to perform related tasks, which eliminates annoying and unnecessary paperwork.

The temporality of that measure will last the same as the time for the process of approving the legal norms endorsing these policies. It will not be a very long time as it is a normal working process to approve these standards, Vice Minister of Labor, Marta Elena Feito clarified.
