Huracan-MatthewHavana, Cuba.-President Raul Castro Ruz personally oversaw during this weekend the measures taken in the eastern province of Guantanamo to face Hurricane Matthew.

During a tour of the eastern region of Cuba, the also head of the National Defense Council said that the main thing today is to prepare for then face better the reconstruction stage.

Accompanied by the deputy minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, Army General, Ramon Espinosa Martin, Raul Castro attended the meeting of the Provincial Defense Council, led by its president, Denny Legra Azaharez. He remarked on the measures corresponding to the hurricane alarm phase, aimed at protecting the population and minimize economic losses.

The president of the Councils of State and Ministers was interested in actions to keep the Guantanamo population informed that they will face a weather event as that coming for the first time and has no real idea of the danger and magnitude.

Special programs have been broadcast on radio and television this time, and the use of loudspeakers to spread the measures and decisions. The importance and need to comply with the guidelines of Civil Defense have been repeated.

Guantanamo authorities plan to evacuate to safe places nearly 179,000 people living in areas prone to landslides and floods. The Cuban president urged to use even the smallest detail the experiences of previous similar events and noted that, although new and unpredictable situations occur, the experience lived has served much to face events like this.
