HAVANA, Cuba. –Cuba{s agriculture seeks to develop the production of henequen derivatives, which increases the added value of this natural fiber, one of the most important market in the world.

Currently, research is carried out in the country on wax in juices of the industrial process of henequen, which has elements with perspectives of use in the pharmaceutical industry and cosmetics, according to specialists of the Natural Fibers National Company.

These experts agree that henequen production in Cuba can report greater economic benefits, with the development of derivatives that increase the added value of the fiber.

Detergents are made from henequen, and the substance known as inulin can become a magnificent sweetener. Surfactants and substances for the rum industry could also be produced.
