DOHA, Qatar.- The United States and Qatar signed this Tuesday a memorandum of understanding to fight the financing of terrorism, just as both countries and Kuwait assessed the potential ripple effect of the current political crisis in the Persian Gulf.

In a press conference with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Qatar’s foreign minister Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani clarified the compromise is not related to the litigation generated since June 5.

Al-Thani remarked that Doha supports Kuwait’s mediating efforts in the crisis raised when Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain broke relations with Qatar after accusing it of promoting and supporting terrorism.

The memorandum seeks to abolish the financing of terrorism and reinforce bilateral ties, Tillerson said, who arrived in Doha from Kuwait on Monday.
