UNITED NATIONS, New York.-On the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, the United Nations calls today to translate into concrete actions the commitments made with a free world of the scourge plaguing hundreds of millions of human beings.

The Secretary-General of the UN, Antonio Guterres, recalled that at present, 800 million people live in extreme poverty and many others face unemployment, insecurity, inequalities, conflict, and climate change.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is our plan to change the course of events and build a healthy planet and peaceful and inclusive societies, the diplomat remarked.

According to Guterres, to realize the goal of not leaving anyone behind, innovative alliances and solutions are needed, focusing on attention to the root causes of poverty.
