DAMASCUS, Syria. – Syrian troops advance rapidly this Tuesday to the city of Deir al-Zur from the West, to break the defensive line of the self-styled Islamic State on the provincial border between Homs and that city.

Moreover, those forces are currently struggling to seize control of the so-called three-kilometer zone; to break the terrorist siege the army plans to advance from three axes: Palmira, to the south-west; the Iraqi border, to the southeast, and from the province of al-Raqa, to the west.

The Syrian army’s progress to Deir al-Zur occurs a few days after Iran’s attack on terrorist positions in Deir al-Zur.

This event was a measure of reprisal for the attacks perpetrated last June 7 by Daesh in the Iranian Parliament and the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini, both in Tehran, with a result of 17 deaths and more than 50 wounded.
