Supreme Electoral Court of Brazil.

BRAZILA, Brazil.- The last judicial battles to secure the presidential candidacy of Lula da Silva, a political prisoner 157 days ago, will be fought in the Supreme Federal Court.

After the president of the Supreme Electoral Court, Rosa Weber, rejected an application to extend the term stipulated by that court to designate Lula’s replacement, the Workers ‘ Party entered into a new request with the same purpose.

In the lawsuit, that party requests to extend until next September 17 the
inscription of the new presidential candidate of the Happy People Coalition again, which would be the current candidate to Vice-President Fernando Haddad.

The appeal will be judged by Minister Celso de Mello, who last Thursday rejected another request brought by Lula’s defense seeking to secure his registration as a candidate.
