ciclondomSanto Domingo, Dominican Republic.- At least four people were killed and more than 17,000 were displaced in the Dominican Republic due to Hurricane Matthew, which hit Haiti today, the authorities said.

Among the dead people are included three minors. Their deaths were caused by landslides resulting from heavy rains associated with the hurricane.

Therefore, the authorities recommended that people must act with caution, especially those living near streams and creeks to prevent further human losses during the category four on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane.

‘A fridge or other appliances can be recovered, but human lives can not,’ warned an official of the Civil Defense.

The official also reported that nearly 17,751 people had to go to houses of relatives and friends while authorities evacuated 794 people to shelters before the imminent danger of the hurricane.

The cyclonic alert remains in 31 provinces and the National District due to possible sea flooding and landslides that might be caused by heavy rains, strong waves and winds of Hurricane Matthew.
