Famine in Nigeria.

Geneva, Switzerland. – The coordinator of the United Nations in Nigeria Edward Kallon warned that the Nigerian population with nutritional difficulties increases and almost a million and a half people could suffer famine in two months.

The official pointed out the funds received so far do not allow giving these people they services they require, that´s why their situation could worsen dramatically in a few weeks if humanitarian aid is delayed.

The UN official recalled that in Nigeria there are one million three hundred thousand people in emergency phase, while another forty-three thousand already suffer famine in northeastern areas.

Kallon also indicated that for eight years the violence of the Boko Haram terrorist group and the Army’s counter-insurgency campaigns beat Northeastern Nigeria, making it a highly vulnerable region.
