Madrid, Spain.- The President of the Government of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, ratified this Monday in Madrid the decision of that region to make a referendum for Catalans to decide on the separation from the Spanish State.

Puigdemont pointed out that he would present to the head of the Spanish Government a proposal on the date and question of the consultation, in order to find together the most suitable option, in mutual agreement.

The Catalan leader said in any case they will celebrate the referendum related to the sovereignty of that region, and then they will propose a new dialogue with the President of the Spanish Government in order to fulfil the population´s wishes.

Puigdemont stressed the Spanish State cannot deny the political character of the Catalan demand, and leaving it to the work of prosecutors and judges is not the solution, because that decision will increase Catalonia’s independence decision.
