BRAZILIA, Brazil. – The claim for the freedom of former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, a political prisoner in Curitiba since last April 7, marked the celebration of May 1st. in Brazil.

The main Brazilian trade unions decided to commemorate the ephemeris together and to do it in the city where Lula began to serve an unfair sentence of twelve years and one month in prison without real proof.

Brazilian trade unionists began the day with a massive Good day, Lula and later they concentrated in the Democracy Square, located only eight kilometers from the police superintendence where Lula da Silva is being held in total isolation.

Vagner Freitas, top leader of the Workers’ Central Union, stressed this was a historic May 1st for Brazil and remarked the importance of having Lula free.
