La Paz, Bolivia.-Professionals from the Cuban Medical Brigade (BMC) in Bolivia are providing solidarity on Sunday at the ExpoSalud 2017 fair, where they are offering free services to patients with limited resources.

Alina Ochoa, the BMC head of medical care, stated that these kinds of events have a positive impact on Bolivians, as the Cuban physicians bring medical services to people who normally cannot have access to a specialist.

Ochoa told Prensa Latina that the brigade holds health fairs every month in several regions of the Andean-Amazonian country with high participation of the population, especially in places of difficult access due to the complexity of its geography.

Among the most requested specialties on these territories are ophthalmology, surgery, gastroenterology, dermatology, neurology and urology, the Cuban doctor said.

According to Ochoa, the BMC in Bolivia has more than 30 specialties ranging from clinics to surgery to meet the most of the needs of those patients.

The next fairs are planned in Vallegrande, in the department of Santa Cruz, and another one will take place in Paseo del Prado in La Paz, in addition to some on the routes taken by Ernesto Guevara to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his assassination in La Higuera, she said.

ExpoSalud 2017 will end on Sunday at the Chuquiago Marka fairground, in La Paz, with broad participation of Cuban health professionals.

Opened on Tuesday, May 23, the event also exhibits the most relevant progress in the medical field and promotes a culture of healthy habits, self-care and awareness.
