Havana, Cuba.-Brigade 23 of the International Contingent of Specialists in Disaster Situations and Severe Epidemics, Henry Reeve, left for Peru today to help those affected by the heavy rains in that country.

The 12 doctors and other 11 experts, all with more than ten years of work experience or with previous missions, will serve for a month in the South American nation, mainly in the area of Piura, where the worst rainfall of the decade is reported in that region.

According to the Cuban Minister of Public Health, Roberto Morales, the specialists will attend to the population and take the necessary measures to avoid epidemics that aggravate the situation.

Cuba provided solidarity aid to Peru earlier in 1970 and 2007 after the earthquakes that affected that country.

Over 50 years, this Caribbean nation has offered collaboration in 186 countries through actions abroad and in national territory, especially in the areas of health, education and sport.
