Havana, Cuba.- In the context of the International Museum Day, the network of these artistic institutions will be constituted today in Cuba, which will allow to gather around 25 of them in events such as plastic arts and music.

The creation of this museum system has as its main objective the exchange of opinions and advice of all the art galleries of the Caribbean nation, and its establishment in the National Museum of Decorative Arts is sponsored by the National Heritage Council.

The president of the National Council for Cultural Heritage, Gladys Collazo, explained in a press conference, that this network of Art Museums will help the study of collections in Cuba, which will also lead to great research and results.

‘Last year, around this time, we held a workshop with history museums from all over our country, but today the study of decorations in national museums is deeper’, Collazo said.

To begin with, the test will take place in the National Museum of Decorative Arts, the National Museum of Fine Arts and the National Museum of Music, and then will integrate other galleries that will also be deeply explored as a whole,’ said the specialist.

With the theme ‘Hyperconnected Museums: new approaches, new audiences,’ other events will be held to celebrate the International Day of these important artistic institutions, such as the guided visits to several of them, the presentation of the book ‘Collecting and Museums in Cuba’ and the inauguration of a temporary exhibition.

Similarly, the National Museum of Decorative Arts, in this capital city, will recognize the best specialists of the sector during the commemoration’s day.

The International Council of Museums (ICOM) was established on May 18, 1947, which is why the delegation of the former Soviet Union at the ICOM General Assembly in Leningrad proposed that the date of International Museum Day should coincide with the anniversary of ICOM.
