Havana, Cuba.- After checking more than 550 works in competition, the Cuban institution Casa de las Americas will announce in Havana on Thursday the winners of the 60th edition of its literary prize.
The final verdict will be announced at 19:00 hours in the entity headquarters with the assistance of personalities from many countries, many of them members of the jury, such as the Argentine story-teller Victor Goldgel-Carballo, the Chilean essayist Lina Meruane and the Ecuadorian poet Raul Vallejo.
The awards are divided into the following genres: novel, poetry, essays on social-historical themes, literature for children and young people, Brazilian literature and studies on Latinos in the United States.
In addition to the prizes in its different sections, it will deliver the already traditional honorific recognitions in essay, narrative and poetry.
During the event, the books awarded in 2018 were presented and magistral conferences were held on topics related to the development of literature in the region.
As part of the collateral activities, the exhibition Popular Art from Peru was opened in the Latin American gallery of Casa and the concert for harp and voice by the Mexican artist Veronica Valerio took place.
