BAYAMO, Cuba. – The National Anthem Square in Bayamo, province of Granma, is being prepared to a gala next Saturday for the bicentennial of Pedro Figueredo Cisneros, Perucho, the author of the warrior march La Bayamesa.

Marching to Glory, is the name of the show, in which the work and legacy of Perucho will be evoked through various artistic expressions.

Pedro Figueredo was member of the First Revolutionary Committee of Bayamo, joined Cespedes in the uprising of October 10 in Demajagua, Manzanillo, and held the position of Secretary of War in 1868, as Major General.

Perucho possessed a vast cultural, political formation and bequeathed to the Cubans the firm decision of not to betray and surrender ever, when he rejected the request of their captors to leave the fight to not be shot.
