Havana, Cuba.- Cuba condemned Israel’s statement on annexing the Jordan Valley and the north of the Dead Sea, in the occupied West Bank.

Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Anayansi Rodríguez expressed the ‘strongest condemnation’ of purposes stated by the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, concerning the expansionist plans on Arab territories.

In a statement, Anayansi Rodríguez noted that this constitutes another serious violation of International Law and the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations.

She added that Tel Aviv’s stance threatens to trigger a new escalation against the Palestinian people, nullifying the possibility of any international peace effort.

She reiterated support for a comprehensive, fair and lasting solution to the Palestinian cause on the basis of the establishment of two States, allowing the Palestinians the right to self-determination and to have an independent and sovereign State, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

In this regard, Cuba urged the United Nations Security Council to fulfill the responsibility granted by the UN Charter in the maintenance of international peace and security.
