Havana, Cuba.- Diplomats from Cuba and Bulgaria have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish political consultations, according to the official website of Cuba”s Foreign Ministry.

The importance of such document was highlighted by the Directors General for Bilateral Affairs of both Cuban and Bulgarian Foreign Ministries, Gerardo Peñalver and Kostadin Kodzhabashev, respectively.

This Memorandum will formalize the exchange and bilateral political dialogue; as well as boost the development of relations between both nations, according to the information.

Officials also reaffirmed their willingness to expand and strengthen political dialogue and linkages in sectors of mutual benefit.

In the meeting they discussed issues of common interest and called the progress of links between Cuba and the European Union as positive, and also as the favorable role played by Bulgaria in favor of this dynamic.

Peñalver acknowledged the recent ratification by the Bulgarian government of the Agreement on political dialogue and cooperation between Havana and the Brussels-based community bloc.

According to the source, the Bulgarian diplomat was also welcomed by the Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra, who confirmed Cuba’s willingness to strengthen the relations between both nations and promote high-level bilateral exchange.

Sierra thanked Bulgaria´s traditional stance in favor of the resolution calling for the cessation of the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba.
