fidel cumpleHavana, Cuba.- Messages of congratulation are pouring in from around the world on occasion of the 90th birthday today of Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro.

In his message, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega congratulated the Cuban leader, whom he describes as ‘an older brother, someone who has devoted his life to extending human solidarity to people from all corners of the world.’

Speaking in Managua during the main activity to mark the 36th anniversary of the Nicaraguan Navy, President Ortega highlighted Fidel’s tireless struggle for world peace, social justice and against hunger.

Salvadorian President Salvador Sánchez Cerén also sent a congratulatory message to the historical leader of the Cuban revolution, calling him a guide for all revolutionaries in Latin America and around the world.

Cerén attended Friday’s inauguration in San Salvador of a photo exhibition dedicated to Fidel on his 90th birthday. He described the Cuban leader as a trustworthy friend.

The Salvadorian head of state said that Fidel’s and the Cuban people’s confidence about the future constitute a permanent source of inspiration for those who are struggling to achieve freedom, social justice, democracy, regional integration and prosperity. He added that the achievements obtained by the Cuban people over the past five decades of a socialist Revolution demonstrate that a better world is possible, and that fighting tirelessly for the well-being of people all over the world makes perfect sense.

The Presidents of Russia Vladímir Putin and China, Xi Jinping, also sent messages of congratulations on Fidel Castro’s 90th birthday.

In his message, published by the Kremlin’s press office, Putin highlighted Fidel’s significant contribution to cementing friendship between Havana and Moscow.

Meanwhile, Chinese leader Xi Jinping congratulated Fidel and highlighted the feelings of deep admiration and respect that the Chinese people have for the Cuban leader and people.
