HAVANA, Cuba.-The Ninth Congress of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) will be the closure of a broad, plural and diverse process, characterized by important analyses on cultural processes of the country. At the same time, it is a starting point for a new stage of work, Rubiel Garcia, director of Communication and Image of the organization said.

Garcia highlighted that the meeting, from June 28 to 30, confirms the commitment of intellectuals to the defense of national identity, as an antidote to the neo-colonial wave they try to impose us.

The director of Communication and Image of UNEAC summed up the pre-Congress process, which identified strengths and weaknesses, and demonstrated the usefulness of the body in the exercise of thought within culture.

The assemblies, the official said, insisted on the need to face mediocrity, bad taste and aggression to the public good.
