On the Internet: Defending our values and identity.

The Minister of Communications, Jorge Luis Perdomo, emphasized that Internet access will continue to be expanded in the country.

HAVANA, Cuba.- At the First National Internet Governance Forum, in the Convention Palace, Minister of Communications Jorge Luis Perdomo called to develop Cuban projects and service platforms closer to our culture and ideology, defense of values and identity.

Perdomo emphasized that different ways of Internet access would continue to be expanded in the country, so that it would be more likely to be used in order to enrich our culture, exchange and defend ideas, and as a means of communication.

The Minister of Communications described as very positive the leadership of the Union of Computer Specialists of Cuba in the forums on Internet Governance, a process that has different edges and mainstreams several sectors.

The official warned that the Net of networks is not completely neutral, and is dominated by transnationals and countries that are unwilling to lose control over that mean.

Building the Internet among All

During the opening day of the First National Internet Governance Forum, n at the Havana Convention Palace, there was an extensive debate about access to and management of technologies.

In a panel organized by the Cuban Pedagogues’ Association, several territories presented their experiences to achieve genuine digital inclusion.

The impact of social media on adolescence, the work with disabled and senior citizens, and responsible use of the network in childhood were some of the topics addressed by participants.

Alexander Diaz, senior specialist in Institutional Communication of Computer Youth Clubs, highlighted that the island develops a campaign to strengthen technological culture, and take the best of the Internet to all corners of the country.
