HAVANA, Cuba. – Major General Ramon Pardo Guerra, chief of the Civil Defense National General Staff, said Meteor Exercise requires specific training in the territories that is the best way to learn well what should be done in each case, according to their own characteristics.

Pardo Guerra added it is necessary for the population to raise their perception of risk, to keep alert and informed about any event, and to avoid negligence and indiscipline with their negative consequences.

Meteor exercise will be held next Saturday and Sunday on the subject of strengthening skills to cope with earthquakes and hurricanes of great intensity, intense and extensive droughts, and disasters of sanitary origin.

One of its purpose is to specify the assurances for the fulfillment of missions, the deadlines and the establishment of cooperation.

A Necessary and Timely Exercise

During the first day of Meteor Exercise, the management and control bodies at all levels will analyze the dangers, the results of the information exchange with the surveillance and monitoring institutions.

On Sunday, they will carry out some practical actions to reduce vulnerabilities and involve entities and communities. Also the special engineering formations of forestry and communal will be prepared.

Civil Defense authorities stressed the importance of working in environmental sanitation, and maintaining discipline and caution.

The National Civil Defense system will be 55 years next July 31st, in a work integrated by all the forces and resources of society and the State, in order to protecting people, their assets, natural resources and economy.
