Hurrican Michael, 2018.

PINAR DEL RIO, Cuba.- Due to the proximity and influence of the cloud and rain bands associated with Hurricane Michael, once declared the informative phase, measures are taken in Pinar del Rio province according to this stage.

For this reason, the agencies and entities are currently implementing the guidelines issued by the Civil Defense and the Risk Control Center, which includes preparing radio amateurs.

In the case of schools, the Directorate of Education in Pinar del Rio extended the entrance of the students of internal centers, but classes continue; they only cease during the phase of cyclone alert.

Meanwhile, rains continue without high-value levels and intensify at times, as well as the winds associated with Hurricane Michael.

Attentive in Artemisa to Intense Rains

ARTEMISA, Cuba.- With Hurricane Michael coming up to the westernmost end of Cuba, they apply measures in the province of Artemisa to prevent damage caused by heavy rainfall and coastal flooding.

On the southern coast of the territory they maintain permanent vigilance in Cajio, Guanimar and Majana beaches, where the population and the State bodies observe the trajectory of the meteorological phenomenon through the information issued by the media.

Because of the possible flooding in low areas due to heavy rainfall, in the municipalities of Guira de Melena, Alquizar, Artemisa and San Cristobal the population complies with the measures directed to face numerous rainfalls.

Now in Artemisa rains at intervals and sometimes intensely, the sky is completely cloudy and the sea begins to reflect the proximity of Hurricane Michael.

Inhabitants of Isle of Youth Alert to the Passage of Hurricane

ISLAND OF YOUTH, Cuba.- Due to rains associated with tropical storm Michael, in Island of Youth, a strict surveillance of dams is maintained, at 77.3 percent of their storage capacity.

According to the existing hydro-meteorological situation, the Civil Defense Command Post directs the population to avoid fishing in spillways and to boil water for human consumption, although none of these reservoirs offer danger to the people.

Although no affectations are reported in the Island of Youth, there is a cumulative rainfall of 94 millimeters, less than the historical average recorded for October.

Although the rainfall on this Special Municipality is not significant, the Municipal Defense Council will be activated to take the measures corresponding to the informative phase.
