United Nations, New York.- The President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, met on Tuesday with his counterparts from South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, and from Argentina, Mauricio Macri, as part of his broad agenda he is carrying out at the UN.

The meeting of the Cuban Head of State with Ramaphosa took place one day after his participation at the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit, a high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly remembering the legacy of the South African leader.

Blood ties bind Cuba and Africa. The cultural heritage of the African continent in the Cuban idiosyncrasy is indisputable. The culture and the best values of their people nourished ours, said the Cuban leader in the meeting.

Diaz-Canel spoke with Ramaphosa and Macri after the meeting held this Tuesday with the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, during the General Assembly, whose high-level debate has begun today.

These bilateral meetings are added to those he held on Monday with his counterparts from Ecuador, Lenin Moreno; Iran, Hasan Rohani; Croatia, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovia; Mozambique, Filipe Nyussi; Peru, Martin Vizcarra; and Andorra, Antoni Marti.

As part of his activities at the UN, the President of Cuba had talks with Republican and Democrat members of the U.S. Congress on Monday, to whom he ratified his willingness to promote the improvement of bilateral relations.

At that meeting, held at the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations, the President called to take advantage of the potentials for cooperation based on equality and mutual respect.

The US lawmakers spoke to Prensa Latina and other media about the need to lift the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by Washington on the island and the importance of expanding cooperation between both countries.

Diaz-Canel also spoke with executives of several U.S. ICT companies interested in the potential of the Cuban market.
