Havana, Cuba.- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has insisted that in times of US increasing hostility and aggressiveness the island has two top priorities: readiness for defense and the economic battle.

The strategy is working tirelessly with already designed alternatives towards guaranteeing the best benefits for our people, the Head of State said when closing Saturday the third extraordinary session of Parliament.

In going over the plan for economic and social development until 2030, under study in Parliament, Diaz-Canel asserted that an objective look into the country’s current conditions and the international environment has led the State to propose a three-stage economic plan: from 2019 to 2021, 2022-2026 and 2027-2030.

He further said the six strategic sectors of the economy are: tourism, biotechnological and pharmaceutical industries, power generation -this related to renewable sources-, food production, export of professional services and construction.

Furthermore, Diaz-Canel called to put in place pending economic measures that have to do with demands and needs, such the overhauling of Domestic Trade, functioning of entrepreneurial system, agricultural and non-agricultural cooperatives and private self-employment.
