Mass March against Government in Chile

SANTIAGO DE CHILE, Chile.- Convened by the Bureau of Social Unity, a massive peaceful march began from Plaza Italia in Santiago de Chile in the context of the general strike against the government of Sebastian Pinera.

Many social, trade union, political and student organizations join to this pressure measure to demand an end to injustices in the South American country.

Chile’s undersecretary of the Interior, Rodrigo Ubilla, reported that the death toll from the cruel police crackdown rose to 18 during the protests launched last Friday in the country against the government of Sebastian Pinera.

In addition, Ubilla said that last Tuesday there were 54 protest marches throughout Chile in which an estimated 220,000 people participated and the same is expected to happen in the demonstration that takes place today.
