Havana, Cuba.- Cuba”s Foreign Ministry expressed on Monday its confidence in Bolivia”s work to revitalize the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC, in Spanish) by assuming its pro tempore presidency.

The Foreign Ministry, in its Twitter, recalled that on Monday El Salvador will hand over to Bolivia the pro tempore presidency of the regional bloc founded in 2011 in Venezuela.

Cuba, Latin America and the Caribbean entrust Bolivia’s presidency during 2019 to revitalize @CELAC, the message said.

Bolivia assumes this responsibility in a complex scenario of right-wing governments returning to power with an agenda closer to US positions, whose current administration does not hide its interest in imposing the Monroe doctrine (US policy for regional domination).

CELAC, or CLACS in English, made up of some thirty Latin American and Caribbean countries, had former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez (1954-2013) as one of its main leaders.
