HAVANA, Cuba.- After exercising his vote in today’s constitutional referendum, the President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, stated that historically February 24 has been a day of unity, continuity and revolutionary reaffirmation in Cuba.
The also member of the Political Bureau of the Party recalled José Marti ‘s call to old warriors and new pines to start, under a single party, the necessary war for independence, which already had an anti-imperialist character.
On February 24, 1976, Diaz-Canel recalled, our people approved their first socialist Constitution, which meant another moment of unity and institutional advancement for the country.
The Cuban President remarked that on this date, but in 2008, Army General Raul Castro assumed the Presidency of Cuba as a continuation of the legacy of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.
A Constitution that Dignifies Cubans
President Miguel Diaz-Canel said the Constitution submitted today to the referendum has a stronger text after the contribution of the people in debates. It dignifies and exalts the values of the Cuban people and the legacy of Fidel, Marti and Raul. Nothing distracts us from our fundamental daily struggles in the field of economy, the preparation for the defense and the integrality of all the areas of the society, Diaz-Canel declared after voting in Electoral College number 3 of Cubanacan neighborhood, in the municipality of Playa.
The President of the Councils of State and Ministers said this is an advanced, modern Constitution that formulates a socialist State of law and it will allow to unlock processes and to progress in a more decisive way.
After its proclamation there would be an extensive legislative exercise to approve and implement, in the shortest possible time, all the laws that reinforce the Magna Carta, Diaz-Canel added.
A Victory for us, for Venezuela and Latin America.
The new Cuban Constitution is for the present and for the future, because it guarantee the lives of our children and grandchildren and give them responsibility in the projects to be assumed, President Miguel Diaz-Canel said this Sunday.
He described as impressive the participation of young people in support of the victims and the recovery efforts after the devastating passage tornado last January 27.
I feel optimistic, the member of the Political Bureau of the Party said, I am confident that in today’s referendum we will achieve a victory that is ours but also for Venezuela and all Latin America and the Caribbean.
Diaz-Canel warned that the empire is wrong and destroys itself, because in front of its arrogance, evil and perverse practices, the people awake and understand this is not the way, but Socialism to which we aspire to and we must perfect with better economic answers.
At Stake the Dignity of the Continent
Miguel Diaz-Canel ratified Cuba’s solidarity with the people and the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela, in the face of the brutal onslaught of the United States and its allies.
He warned it is intended to impose capitalist and neoliberal restoration in Latin America, with an economic, media, ideological and cultural war, so he called the peoples to defend their identity.
The Cuban President criticized the lack of dignity of certain rulers, qualified as a clown meeting that held last Saturday at the Colombian border and asked: What was the President of Colombia doing there encouraging war, when his country has lived a prolonged armed conflict and Cuba has supported for peace to be built there?
What was doing the Chilean President, when he owes his people the search for criminals of Pinochet dictatorship? What was Marco Rubio doing leading what it was supposed to happen in Venezuela? also the Cuban President questioned.
