Montevideo, Uruguay.- Uruguay’s Broad Front (FA) has condemned the intensification of the United States blockade on Cuba, labeling it a “genocide,” and has called for concrete acts of solidarity with the island.

This is affirmed in a motion approved by a committee at the 18th Congress of the FA. In light of the current situation, the party has committed to launching a “2026 Solidarity with Cuba Campaign,” aimed at “helping to mitigate the direct consequences of this criminal blockade, specifically in the areas of healthcare and education.”

The text acknowledges the role played by the Cuban Revolution in the emancipation of Latin America.

It further highlights the warmth and humanity shown by the Cuban people toward others around the world—especially toward the poor and the exploited—the document notes. It mentions “enormous gestures of solidarity in the face of catastrophic situations, carried out by its contingents of doctors and health professionals—organized under the Henry Reeve Brigade—during natural disasters and in the fight against Ebola in Africa.”

It notes that while imperialists have focused on deploying soldiers and weapons to occupy countries, Cuba, by contrast, has spread life.

It asserts that “the Cuban people have earned the right to determine their own destiny through their heroic resistance throughout history.”

In light of imperialist attempts to turn Cuba into another Gaza Strip, the life and humanity of its people must be defended. We must promote consistent actions to reject the blockade and express solidarity with Cuba, the motion concerning the Caribbean nation concludes.

The motion was adopted during a session closed to the press, though details emerged through sources within the Broad Front (Frente Amplio) and the news agency uy.press.
