Havana, Cuba.- Cuba has broad potential to export organic, healthy and safe food that can be certified,” said today Luc Leroy Marie, executive vice-president of KIWA BCS Group.
Leroy made that statement at the 11th Meeting of Managers of the group, an agency that certifies organic products, food safety and quality management systems, which concluded in Varadero, some 180 kilometers east of Havana.
Leroy expressed the willingness of the group to further search into the Cuban market for other products that can be exported to developed countries.
He said that the interest for healthy organic products, without risks and with health safety, is growing in the United States and Europe, and in that regard, Cuba has some products already certified by the group, as honey, sugar, cocoa, coffee, citrus and fruits, among others, which are already exported to European countries.
In that regard, he reiterated the willingness to promote other Cuban products such as coal, but for that, he insisted, it needs the certification of his company, which opens the doors of Europe and other markets in developed countries.
‘Tourism in Cuba is growing, as well as other fields of the economy, such as energy, construction devices, health products and even water, and as they increase, they can also be certified,’ he said.
Meanwhile, Kiwa’s manager for Operations in Latin America Hansjorg Gotz said that recently an agreement was signed with the University of Havana to develop a cooperation program to boost the work with the Cuban faculty of agronomy.
