nuclear Fidel-DiazMoscow, Russia.-Cuba has attended a meeting of the Committee of Plenipotentiary Representatives of the Member States of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), diplomatic sources said today.

JINR chairman, Polish Latchezar Kostov, and the director of that entity, Viktor Matveev, led the plenary session, held in Dubna.

Dr. Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart, scientific adviser to the Council of State and Cuban Plenipotentiary Representative to JINR, and Ambassador Emilio Lozada Garcia, chaired the Cuban delegation.

The main achievements of the Institute in the 2009-2016 period, and the tasks to implement the new 2017-2023 Development Plan, were analyzed during the fruitful working session.

Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart stressed that the latter will promote the strategy of scientific development at mid and long term.

He also ratified Cuba’s willingness to increase its participation in the scientific activity of this prestige international institution in the application of nuclear energy and related issues.

As a culmination of the intense day, the parts signed the Protocol of the Plenary Session, which included the agreements adopted for the new period.
