The Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong

Nguyen Phu Trong thanked Cuba for the degree of Honorary Doctor.

HAVANA, Cuba.- For his fruitful political career and contributions to the construction of Socialism, the Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong, received this Thursday the degree of Honorary Doctor in Political and Economic Sciences, given by the University of Havana.

In the ceremony, chaired by the Cuban First Vice-President, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, it was remarked the strengthening of relations between Cuba and Vietnam, which favors the exchange of political experiences.

The Rector of the University of Havana, Gustavo Cobreiro, emphasized the admiration of the Vietnamese leader for Commander- in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, whom he met personally.

Nguyen Phu Trong thanked Cuba for the degree of Honorary Doctor, a tangible proof to the friendship between the two countries, and later talked with the students.

Details of Nguyen Phu Trong´s Official Visit

On this day the top leader of the Vietnamese Communist Party toured the Vo Thi Thang School, where he highlighted the deep links between Havana and Hanoi.

At the same time, the second Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party, Jose Ramon Machado Ventura and the Vice-President of the Vietnamese Parliament, Tong Thi Hon, participated in a fraternal meeting between the Communist youths of both nations.

The Cuban Chancellor, Bruno Rodriguez, met with his counterpart in the Asian country, Fam Bin Min, who is part of the delegation headed by the Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

During the first day of his fifth official visit to Cuba, Nguyen Phu Trong paid tribute to the hero of the independence of his country, Ho Chi Minh.
