Cuba celebrates the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China

HAVANA, Cuba.- The First Secretary of the Party’s Central Committee, Army General Raul Castro Ruz, and Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, presided over the political-cultural event in Havana for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

The Chinese Ambassador to Cuba, Chen Xi, conveyed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s messages of thanks and reaffirmed a willingness to further strengthen political trust between the two parties and peoples.

Over the course of these 70 years, Chen highlighted, great historical exploits have been created, and the nation has undertaken the development of Socialism, and became the second largest world economy.

At the celebration in Havana for the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, the Chinese Ambassador highlighted the increase in life expectancy as an achievement of his country.

From Victory to Victory

The Chinese diplomat also evoked Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, who opened the curtain on diplomatic relations between the two States.

The speaker highlighted the tireless efforts of the Cuban Party and Government to defend the justice and well-being of its people, and reaffirmed the Chinese position against the U.S. blockade of the island.

Cuba has made progress in updating its economic and social model, Cheng Xi added, and reiterated his conviction that in the face of difficulties, the Cuban people, under the direction of the Party, will advance from victory to victory.

At the event held in Havana on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Asian nation, Chen Xi emphasized that China will continue to support Cuba without hesitation.

Cuba and China: An Unwavering Friendship

In the ceremony, First Vice-President Salvador Valdes Mesa thanked, on behalf of the First Secretary of the Party, Raul Castro Ruz, the Cuban Government and people, for the Medal of Friendship awarded to the Army General.

With the presence of Raul, President Miguel Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez and other authorities of Cuba and China, Valdes Mesa highlighted that this distinction constitutes a new gesture of brotherhood and recognition of the role of the historical leadership of the Revolution.

The Cuban First Vice-President referred to Raul’s close relationship with China, and reaffirmed that it is an honor for the island that this date has been chosen to grant him the highest decoration of the brother country.

The present and future generations of Cubans and Chinese will be able to preserve the valuable legacy of our friendship, Valdes Mesa emphasized.

Close Ties

First Vice President Salvador Valdes Mesa highlighted at the event for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, that the Communist Party has played a significant role in the development of the Asian country, and its achievements in areas such as food, education and others.

Cuba hails and appreciates the rise of a socialist and prosperous China, of great importance to developing countries, and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, Valdes Mesa said.

The Cuban First Vice-President evoked the words of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, who expressed that China had to be taken into account when it came to development.

In the event of the 70th year of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Valdes Mesa recalled the beginnings of the friendship between the two nations, and highly valued the bonds that have now been strengthened and expanded as never before.

Unity of Principles

The ties between Cuba and China have become an example of ties between socialist nations, of South-South cooperation, and relations between a large country and a small country, based on equality and mutual respect, First Vice-President Salvador Valdes Mesa said.

At the celebration in Havana on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Valdes Mesa confirmed that both nations reject hegemonism, unilateralism, blockades, policies of force, double standards in the fight against terrorism, and the imposition of a unique model in the world.

The speaker reiterated that Cuba and China defend the principles of international law and the role of the United Nations, as well as the value of sovereignty, independence, unity and dignity.

Valdes Mesa highlighted the strong and unrestricted support for the principle of one China, and condemnation of interference in its internal affairs.
