Pretoria, South Africa.- Diplomats, aid workers and Cuban living in South Africa have celebrated this Friday in Pretoria the 66th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes barracks and highlighted the significance of this Rebellion Day.

Ambassador Rodolfo Benitez reviewed the events that took place on July 26, 1953, by a group of young people led by Fidel Castro, who began the last stage of the liberation struggle begun in 1868, known as the Ten-Year War, which resumed in 1895 with a revolutionary program drawn up by Jose Marti, the hero of Cuban independence.

Benitez shared with the audience the diplomatic mission’s recognition by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the good work done in 2018.

On the occasion of this historic anniversary of the Caribbean nation, South African political and social organizations are carrying out acts of support for Cuba, where denunciations are expressed against the United States for the intensification of the blockade measures.
