BEIJING, China.- China congratulated Cuba this Tuesday on the massive support received by the new Constitution and highlighted it constitutes a transcendental step, because it establishes the legal framework for the future development of the island.

Lu Kang, spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a press conference that the high approval of Cubans to that text marks an important progress.

China respects and supports the decisions of the Cuban people, it wants and trusts that the road of development of Cuba will be much wider, Lu declared. In addition the main media of China highlighted the development of the referendum.

The new Magna Carta reaffirms Cuba’s socialist character and the leadership role of the Communist Party, reflects changes in the State’s structure, extends individual rights and guarantees, strengthens popular power from the grassroots, and recognizes various forms of property.
