Cuba accumulates 1,887 confirmed Cases with Covid-19

At the close of yesterday, May 18, 824 patients are admitted to hospitals for epidemiological clinical surveillance. Another 2,053 people are monitored in their homes from Primary Health Care.

For COVID-19, 688 samples were studied, resulting in positive 6 samples. The country accumulates 85 thousand 556 samples made and one thousand 887 positive (2.2%). Therefore, at the close of yesterday, 6 new cases are confirmed, for a cumulative figure of one thousand 887 in the country.

The six new confirmed cases were Cuban. Six of them (100%) were confirmed case contacts.

Of the 6 diagnosed cases, 4 (67%) women and 2 (33.3%) men. By age groups the most affected were: under 40 with 3 and over 40 with three (50% respectively). 67% (4) of the positive cases were asymptomatic.

Havana: 2 cases

Cuban citizen, 44, resident in Playa municipality, Havana province. A contact of a previously confirmed case. 13 contacts are kept under surveillance.

Cuban citizen, 49, resident in Centro Habana municipality, Havana province. A contact of a previously confirmed case.  29 contacts are kept under surveillance.

Matanzas: 2 cases

33-year-old Cuban citizen, resident in Matanzas municipality, province of the same name. A contact of a previously confirmed case. 9 contacts are kept under surveillance.

58-year-old Cuban citizen, resident in Cardenas municipality, Matanzas province. A contact of previously confirmed cases.. 11 contacts are kept under surveillance.

Villa Clara: 2 cases

Cuban citizen, 32, resident in Ranchuelo municipality, Villa Clara province. A contact of previously confirmed cases. 50 contacts are kept under surveillance.

Of the 1,887 patients diagnosed with the disease, 268 confirmed are kept admitted, and of them 260 (97.0%) have a stable clinical evolution. 79 deaths (none in the day), two evacuees and 538 recovered patients (81.5%) (33 yesterday) are reported. One critically ill patient and seven patients in a serious condition are reported.

 

Patients reported in a critical condition:

Cuban citizen, 85, from Villa Clara. Background of peripheral venous insufficiency of both Lower members and cholecystectomy. She is afebrile, in mechanical ventilation. Hemodynamically stable. Rx chest. Discreet improvement. Bilateral alveolar interstitial infiltration. She is reported in a critical condition.

Patients reported in a serious condition:

Cuban citizen, 65, resident in Matanzas municipality. History of Arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, congestive heart failure, with diagnosis of lung neoplasia pending histological study. She entered Intensive Care Therapy for sudden dyspnea, fever, tachycardia and weakness evolving into acute respiratory failure.She is afebrile, spontaneously ventilating, hemodynamically stable. Rx thorax with tumor with bronchial compression in right lower lobe, with inflammatory lesions in this hemithorax. Atrial fibrillation is observed in electrocardiogram. She is reported in a serious condition.

Cuban citizen, 85. From Centro Habana municipality. With a history of prostate cancer with pulmonary metastasis. Being admitted with coughing, he started with polypnea and was moved to Intensive Care Therapy. He is afebrile, spontaneously ventilating. Hemodynamically stable. Chest rx, inflammatory lesions in both lung fields to predominate of left hemithorax related to pulmonary metastases and possible bone. He is reported in a serious condition.

Cuban citizen, 68. She is from Arroyo Naranjo municipality. With a history of anemia. She is afebrile, spontaneously ventilating. Hemodynamically stable. Rx chest. Best. Inflammatory lesions spread in both lung fields to left predominance. She is reported in a serious condition.

55-year-old Cuban citizen. Personal pathological background. arterial hypertension. During her stay at the isolation center she was twice valued by Psychiatry due to excitation episode, last night she did a referred seizure event, she was meditaed and transferred to the Intensive Care Therapy for presenting a prolonged post-stroke status. She is received disoriented, hallucinating and in a lethargy, making excitation episodes easily that require medication and prone to high blood pressure. She has a clinical improvement, conscious, oriented, afebrile, without respiratory symptoms, ventilating spontaneously. Hemodynamically stable. Rx’s negative chest. She is reported in a serious condition.

62-year-old Cuban citizen from Matanzas municipality. A history of arterial hypertension and traumatic brain hemorrhage. Convalescent patient with sequel of admission by politrauma who was medical discharged from Faustino Perez Hospital, more than a week ago with negative test. PCR applied on May 11, for presenting a wet cough, with a positive result, he was moved for Intensive Care Therapy at Mario Munoz Military Hospital for ventilatory demand and marked weakness. He is monitored, with motor aphasia, stiffness and recurrent clone movements, afebrile, with wet cough, ventilating by tracheostomy. Hemodynamically stable. Rx chest, discreet radiological improvement, few speckled inflammatory in the middle third of right and left-based hemithorax. He is reported in a serious condition.

Cuban citizen, 69. From Cardenas municipality. A history of arterial hypertension and convalescence of hip fracture surgery. patient operated at Cardenas Hospital 45 days ago that evolved her immediate postoperative at Faustino Perez Hospital. At home, after being medical discharged, she began with respiratory symptoms. After being admitted she began with sudden dyspnea and desaturation, it is considered possible pulmonary thromboembolism, moving for Intensive Care Therapy. She is conscious, oriented, cooperative, afebrile, not sudden dyspnea events, spontaneously ventilating. Hemodynamically stable. Rx chest unchanged, radiopacity in veil throughout right hemithorax compatible with pleural effusion. She is reported in a serious condition.

Cuban citizen, 48, from Holguin municipality. He began with discomfort in the precordial region to changes in position and fever that is related to Interferon. He was valued in the Cardiology service and a pericardial rub is detected, with prolongation of Q-T and pericardial effusion of light to moderate, it is interpreted as a pericarditis of viral etiology, moving for Intensive Care Therapy. He is conscious, cooperative, not precordial pain, afebrile, ventilating spontaneously. Hemodynamically stable. Normal electrocardiogram. Rx chest of negative. He is reported in a serious condition.

 

Until May 18, 185 countries with COVID-19 cases are reported, with 4 million 679 thousand 511 confirmed cases (+81 thousand 617) and 315 thousand 005 deaths (+3 thousand 417) with a lethality of 6.73% (-0.05).

In the Americas region, 2 million 088 thousand confirmed cases (+38 thousand 532) are reported, 44.62% of the total reported cases worldwide, with 124 thousand 862 deceased (+ thousand 771) and a lethality of 5.98% (-0.03).
