What Camaguey Does

CAMAGUEY, Cuba.-. On his second day in this province, as part of the government visit, the President of the Councils of State and Ministers of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez departed with executives of the Commerce and Gastronomy Company in the territory.

The head of State called for a halt to the chain of defaults in the internal trading system, and to establish effective mechanisms and compliance with reconciliations and deposits.

Diaz-Canel said Camaguey is one of the provinces that has worked a lot in the revival of gastronomy, and these efforts have to be reversed in the quality of services and salaries of workers.

He also analyzed the issue of fuel control, on which he said it is necessary to take measures to avoid its detour, and together with Minister of Communications Jorge Luis Perdomo, examined the computerization policies of the Cuban society in Camaguey.

For the Benefit of People

At the meeting, the Cuban President and the Minister of Communications knew about local projects of computerization in Camaguey, like the information management of public good system and that of the Alley of Miracles.

Diaz-Canel reiterated that at the end of the year or beginning of the next one, the first stage of the so-called Electronic Government must culminate, so it is necessary that all the institutions advance to a rapid pace in the conception of their digital platforms.

Water, a Vital Resource

In the government visit to Camaguey, Ines Maria Chapman, Vice-President of the Councils of State and Ministers, urged to solve with agility the main concerns of the population on the supply of water.

In exchange with leaders of the Hydraulic Resources Delegation, Chapman called to reduce the instability of services, a problem aggravated in the last two months by frequent breaking of pumping equipment, leakages in conductors and subjective factors.

The Vice-President knew of the investment plan that runs, which, although it is achieved in a general way, presents arrears in the pipeline of the Cuban Bulgarian Friendship Dam.

Ines Maria Chapman called for strategies, such as the extension of working time and the formation of new groups, to reverse the non-fulfilment of tasks, which once completed will improve the situation of water supply.

The Necessary Supply of Water

The Vice-President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Ines Maria Chapman, was interested in Camaguey in alternatives applied in communities without an aqueduct system, from where they receive.

In dialogue with Alina Leal, a representative of the agency in Camagüey, Chapman was concerned with measures to mitigate the incidence of climate change, regarding the decline of aquifers and the increase in salinity.

Other topics reviewed with the participation of Antonio Rodriguez, president of the Hydraulic Resources Institute, were the aqueduct and sewerage networks, and the solution to voters’ demands.

More than half of the 54 dams in Camaguey is above 80 percent filling, a similar situation to that of the 12 supplying water to the population.

Challenge to People of Camaguey

During the government visit to Camaguey, it was known that chromium, charcoal and citrus are exportable funds that violate the values planned at this stage.
Camaguey has a great responsibility to the country as far as exportable funds are concerned, so that task has to be constantly in the priorities of each group.

Minister of Economy and Planning Alejandro Gil, urged the inhabitants of the province to plan productions on the basis of the reality the country lives, and to reduce imports to a minimum.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Foreign Trade and External Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca, evaluated as very positive the exchange with entrepreneurs of the territory, which will allow to boost the economic development of the country by the potential of the province in exportable funds.
