Havana, Cuba.- Juan Francisco Puello, president of the Caribbean Confederation of Professional Baseball (CBPC by its Spanish acronym) reasserted that the main obstacle for the inclusion of Cuba in that organization is the policy of the United Strates against Havana.

‘The fact that politics is the one defining such an issue, is beyond belief. It does not benefit anyone. In the exact moment in which the differences are fixed, Cuba will be automatically admitted as a full member of the organization,’ said the 69-year veteran Caribbean baseball executive in a conversation with Prensa Latina Monday.

Puello also stated that Cuba will not be able to host any edition of the Caribbean Baseball Series, while such a situation is maintained.

‘It is worth remembering that Cuba suffers an economic blockade by the United States for more than half a century, a policy that prevents organizations such as Major League Baseball teams from having legal contact with the Cuban sports authorities .

Recently, the president of the Cuban Baseball Federation, Higinio Vélez, told Prensa Latina that Havana is interested in the headquarters of the Caribbean Series after 2020.

However, he added that the blockade is a great obstacle to make this tournament a reality.
