Santiago de Cuba, Cuba.- The first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Raul Castro, on Tuesday noted the role of Cuban youths as faithful followers of the revolutionary process in the country.

Speaking at the main event on the 60th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution, held on January 1 at the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery in Santiago de Cuba, Raul Castro assured that along with the people, they feel satisfied, happy and confident when they see how the new generations assume the mission of continuing to build socialism.

The leader noted that the new generations have the duty to guarantee that the current process always belongs to the youths and at the same time to be a socialist Revolution of the humble and for the humble.

In his speech, he also noted the work by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel since he took office to date, and said that the PCC strongly supports his actions at the helm of the Cuban Government.

‘(…) I can say that the process of transition to the new generations in the main responsibilities goes well, very well, without obstacles or shocks, and we are certain that we will continue like that,’ Raul Castro stressed.

He also referrred to the recently approved Constitution of the Republic, whose draft document was submitted to popular consultation for several months and will be voted in a popular referendum on February 24.

Referring to the situation in Latin America, Raul Castro called on the progressive forces of the world to support the release of the leader of the Workers’ Party of Brazil, Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva, who has been unjustly held by the Brazilian Government.

The PCC first secretary assured that Cuba will continue to contribute actively to the regional processes of consensus and integration, based on the concept of unity in diversity.

‘The region resembles a big praire in times of drought, a sparkle might generate an uncontrollable fire that would damage the national interests of all,’ the Cuban leader pointed out.
