camaguey 2Camaguey, Cuba.-The city of Camaguey will host since Wednesday the 11th Symposium ”Challenges in the management of historical cities”, with the participation of prestigious specialists on preservation issues.

Katherine Muller, director of the regional office of Unesco for Latin America and the Caribbean, will be in charge of the opening lecture of the forum that will be held at the Conference Center Santa Cecilia, in the center of the city, World Cultural Heritage with more than 500 years of history.

Amid participants are doctor in economic sciences and specialist in demography Juan Albizu-Campos, who will present a study on the problems linked to population settlements in Cuba.

The event will be hosted as part of the celebrations for the 20th year of the Historian´s Office in the city of Camaguey (OHCC), an institution that leads preservation in the historical center of the city.

Jose Rodriguez, OHCC director, said that the exchange organized in commissions will update participants on the work carried out in the oldest cities in the country, the development of which is affected by tourism and the population growth.

The activities of the event also include on February 23rd, the launch of the book ‘Ajedrez a la Luz’, by Antonio Guerrero, Hero of the Republic, tackling his links to this game during the unfair imprisonment in the United States.
