UNITED NATIONS, New York.- Cuba denounced the United States as immutable before the plight of the United Nations, UN, with a lack of cash, and keeps the organization under financial blackmail.

At the fifth Commission of the General Assembly, Yaima de Armas, second secretary of the Cuban Mission to the United Nations, said it is known who is primarily responsible for the critical financial situation experienced by the UN.

De Armas added that Washington insists on recalling its status as the main contributor, when it owes almost $800 million to the budget of the multilateral organization, and in peacekeeping operations its debt amounts to more than $2 billion.

The Cuban diplomat highlighted that the absence of such sums has the consequence of limiting the UN’s ability to deal with high-cultural events, and protecting the lives of those serving in conflict zones.
