Havana, Cuba.-The Vice President of the Council of Ministers, Marino Murillo, has ratified that the social ownership over the means of production is still observed in Cuba.

State land is given in usufruct, but it cannot be sold. It is owned by all the people represented by the State, Murillo said during an extraordinary session of the National Assembly.

As explained by the head of the Implementation and Development Commission, the State owns the property, but people handle it.

Lawmakers sitting at the Education, Sports, Science and Technology, Children’s Affairs, Youth and Women’s Rights Commissions championed for a greater people´s control over state-run enterprises.

The proposals came up during the extraordinary session of the National Assembly that began today at the Havana International Conference Center, in order to analyze the governing documents of the economic, social and political development model in force in Cuba.

During the in-depth debate, Guantanamo province representative, Idaliena Diaz, asked that a paragraph precisely stating that people should have control over the business system should be explicitly incorporated into the law, since this item is only contemplated for the budgeted companies.
