SANCTI SPIRITUS, Cuba. – In a tour of Sancti Spiritus Major General Ramon Pardo Guerra, chief of the Civil Defense National General Staff, called to extreme safety and protection measures to the intense rains left by the subtropical Storm “Alberto”.
Pardo Guerra pointed out that although the Provincial Defense Council is not active, it must work as if it were, because the heavy rainfall associated with the meteor continues, and the measures established to protect the population and the goods have to be taken.
When visiting Zaza Dam, the national Chief of Civil Defense learned it is close to 120 percent of its storage capacity.
He also knew that, since last Saturday the six floodgates of Cayajana spillway remain open, and Zaza Dam has poured more than 230 000 cubic meters of water since that day.
