Havana, Cuba.-Cuban parliamentarians were informed today on the new policy of computerization of the society, from its implementation to the first results of this project, which has a high economic and social impact for the country.
The plan, which was presented in the plenary session by Cuban Minister of Communications Maimir Mesa before the 9th session of the 8th legislature of the National Assembly (Parliament), will become a weapon for the defense of the Revolution, according to its general principles.
Promoting the access of the population to new technologies in Information Technology and Telecommunications, as well as developing and updating all fields of society according to the priorities, are other key issues.
For the implementation of these actions, various measures are outlined for the period 2017-2020, defined in two lines, the creation of a technological infrastructure and the production of digital services and contents.
Mesa said that progress is being made in increasing Internet access for the population, while increasingly affordable prices are envisaged.
As first results, despite the economic limitations, he said that the bandwidth was increased by 72 percent, while there are already 869 radio bases in the access network for mobile telephones and 358 of them can be used with 3G technology.
